1. Background
To ensure that police peacekeepers are able to fulfill the mandate to protect civilians and to build the host State police capacity in this regard, the Police Division of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) has developed the United Nations Police Gender Toolkit: Standardized Best Practices on Gender Mainstreaming in Peacekeeping (UNPOL Gender Toolkit).
A contractor is being sought to translate the elearning course materials on the UNPOL Gender Toolkit.
2. Scope of work
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Management Officer and reporting to the Chief of the Strategic Policy and Development Section of the Police Division (SPDS)/OROLSI/DPKO, the contractor will:
Activity:
Convert elearning files from Articulate Storyline and PDF into an editable Microsoft Word format.
Translate the elearning materials and screen text including within narration, tables and charts, boxed text and photo captions into French (approximately 200,000 words).
Perform terminology research for relevant United Nations and technical (police; peacekeeping) vocabulary and check for syntax, expression and grammar for accuracy.
Export translated text from Microsoft Word into Articulate Storyline.
Format the translated text into Articulate Storyline and ensure proper layout and design.
3. Required competencies
Work experience: Minimum of three years work experience; minimum three years experience in English/French translation;Experience in international peace and security or international development preferable; Experience working in communications including multimedia materials (documents, videos) and elearning courses preferable; Prior experience with United Nations preferable.
Minimum education requirement: First level university degree i.e. Bachelor Degree in translation, communication, international studies,gender studies, social science or any related field.
Competencies: Demostrate effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner; Fully proficient in computer skills including elearning software (MS Office – i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Articulate Storyline etc.).
Language: Excellent written and oral skills in French and English language.
