Role Title: Global Safeguarding Lead

Job/Role Purpose: The Global Safeguarding Lead will provide the organisation framework and approach to safeguarding to appropriately support the delivery of our global portfolio of work and fundraising/income generation activities.

Responsibilities:

Safeguarding Framework – leadership and direction

Maintain and develop the organisation framework and approach to safeguarding that allows for successful implementation of our global portfolio.
Maintain and develop the organisation framework and approach to safeguarding that allows for successful public fundraising across the markets in which we operate (currently Ireland, Netherlands, UK)

Programme Design and Development

Develop and maintain country safeguarding context analysis across the VSO portfolio of implementation and pipeline
Develop and maintain a safeguarding framework for each global programme.
Maintain safeguarding assessment/ up to date knowledge of potential and pipeline partner organisations.
Provide activity-based costing guidance for safeguarding work.

Programme implementation

Provide expert advice and support to senior managers and project teams in incident response making links across various aspects of duty of care and people management more widely.
Manage complex incident response as required.
Conduct, manage or oversee safeguarding investigations as required.

Programme learning

Provide updated content for safeguarding training, considering learning journeys based on practice and incidents related to VSO.
Provide a continuous bank of safeguarding practice examples in line with VSO values to assist in training, learning and engagement with employees and volunteers.
Implement an effective monitoring and review process to capture learning globally, presenting as evidence for potential amendments in policy, procedures, and practices.
Provide regular updates to VSO Executive Board, Head of Risk, VSO Board, and Audit and Risk Committee, highlighting progress, potential areas of organisational risk and mitigations.

Continuous Development

Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of research, practice, and legal challenges around safeguarding to apply to VSO strategic thinking in this area.
Participate in networks and knowledge sharing forums focused on safeguarding best practice, promoting VSO practice.

Competence required.

Extensive experience of leading on and, working with, protection, safeguarding and accountability standards across a global organisation.
Technical knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and protection principles and standards in a digital and international context.
Strong technical understanding of all areas of safeguarding relating to children, vulnerable adults, harassment, discrimination, abuse and bullying.
Proven track-record of implementing safeguarding policy, practice and developing a safe and trusted organisation culture.
Experience of working in a multicultural environment, across teams in a complex organisational setting.
Capacity building and facilitation skills.
Able to work strategically and practically across multicultural teams.
Ability to work under pressure and manage crisis incidences.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ability to effectively influence people internally and externally.
Experience of developing, coaching and managing a high performing team
