Role overview
We're looking for a UK-based Team Leader for an anticipated Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) international development volunteer programme focused on the youth.
Are you passionate about volunteering and active citizenship? Do you have leadership experience and a desire to shape and deliver ambitious international development programmes? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.
As the Team Leader, you will support the design and lead the implementation of the programme’s strategic vision, ensuring it delivers meaningful outcomes. Your role will involve managing a dispersed (multi-country) project team, ensuring the programme runs smoothly and maximises its impact. You’ll also be the programme's voice, responsible for communicating with the FCDO and representing the project with other partners.
Ideal Applicant Summary
We seek an inclusive and strategic leader who can develop and motivate a high-performing team, working with and across global and project teams to achieve results. You will have a proven ability to successfully implement and manage complex multi-country volunteer-based projects and contracts, preferably in Africa and Asia contexts. Your ability to collaborate with national governments, youth organisations and other implementing partners will be crucial to the programme's success.
You will be able to travel for work from the home base for up to 30% of the time, including remote areas of the project delivery.
Background and Context
VSO is an International Development Organisation that promotes volunteering as a powerful and practical way to tackle poverty and inequality. Our purpose is to create lasting change through volunteering. At VSO, we believe in bringing about change not by sending aid but by working with volunteers and partners to empower people living in some of the world’s poorest and fragile regions. We know that people in developing countries have the power, courage, and desire to help themselves. That is why we use the Volunteering for Development (VfD) approach that puts the most marginalised people first.
In our 60-plus years of experience engaging with thousands of volunteers (national, international and community based), World Youth, Global Xchange, and International Citizenship Service (ICS), we continue to inspire and ignite the potential for active citizenship across the globe. We are taking a step forward to drive the change and create a fair world for everyone.
