The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world. This position is located in the Digital Solutions Support Unit (DSSU) within the Office of the Chief of Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies Service (SGITT) at the United Nations Global Service Centre in Brindisi, Italy. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Chief DSSU or of the Senior Information Systems Assistant. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new core active directory and file systems including Cloud VDI design, testing and deployment, implementation of backup solutions and Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity solutions • Develops, tests and implements cyber security solutions, deployments, takes action when possible to cyber threats and recommends corrective solutions to management using UN established standards for Cyber Security operations. • Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of Servers, Cloud based solutions and Email operations; computer application systems; independently liaises with users and technical units to define and specify requirements. • Provides documentation and assistance to support the procurement activities by producing technical specification for ICT solutions, based on an analysis of discrepancies, deficiencies and changes to equipment and standards, answering questions from vendors and performing technical evaluation of bids. • Installs computer/ server application, systems software and hardware according to specifications; monitors computer applications systems using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports. • Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations. • Maintains functional specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified. • Provides support for deployed computer application systems including version management, data recovery and deployment to users' offices; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests. • Drafts correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports. • Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of computer application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; prepares standard terms of reference; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services, etc. • Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions. • Provides guidance to supervised/new/junior staff. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job Specific
Qualifications ITIL4 Foundation certification is desirable.
Certification in Project/Programme Management methodology by an accredited body (e.g. PMP, PGMP, PRINCE 2 Foundation level or equivalent is desirable.
Microsoft Azure Fundamental Certification is desirable.
Cisco Certified Network Associate is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
Experience in VMware Windows server virtualization including networking, storage and system integration is desirable.
Experience in providing a full range of technical assistance in the area of Server operations and Administration is desirable.
Experience in implementing Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity (DR/BC) and backup services is desirable.
